As a former Humboldt correctional officer, Central Station shooting perpetrator Sean Timothy O'Brien knows how to work the system. I had already reported on July 25 that he was going to withdraw his plea.
His tactic may backfire him. He has two days; actually less; for defense to file any motion by the deadline set by Judge Kelly Neel.
I wasn't going to do another post on the fifth continuance. I have regularly covered O'Brien's case for a year.
Yesterday, there was another request for continuance by the defense. After argument from Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees and Ms. Kathleen Bryson, Judge Neel granted the request but it was only until next week. Sentencing is scheduled for 9/1.
Defense has until 8/26 to file any motion. Response from the DA is due. no later 8/31.
