Alleged molestor Kevin Dikes is charged with kidnapping and molesting a 9 year old boy and 10 year old boy.
Today, APD Officer Officer Kent Falkenstine, Detective Victoria Johnson and Detective Sgt. Chris Ortega testified for the People at Dikes' preliminary hearing. Sgt. Ortega is the lead investigator for this case.
Judge Kelly Neel presided over the hearing. Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor. Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell is Dikes' attorney.
Dikes was held to answer as charged. Arraignment on information is on August 24.
The mother of one of the John Doe's was present in court for the hearing. The preliminary hearing took all day, a lot of it was due to lengthy cross examination with a lot of repetitive and irrelevant questions.
On 11/10/2021 DA amended complaint which was granted and conditioned on People producing written agreement with Del Norte County on jurisdictional issue. Ms. Timm has the agreement. One additional count was added in the amended complaint. Ms. O'Connell tried to address jurisdiction in arguments. Judge Neel said it had been previously addressed and agreed with Ms. Timm that notice had to be provided for a 954 hearing.
