On July 20, CHP arrested Arcata High athletic director Matthew Dusel. His girlfriend was arrested the same night for public intoxication.
Dusel was released on OR. He has a conviction in a CHP 2019 traffic case and a conviction in a CHP 2018 case. He has a 2021 DUI conviction from Napa.
I have been checking daily whether charges were filed. Humboldt DA did file charges on 9/22/26. Arraignment is on 11/23/26.
Dusel's Linkedin profile and Arcata High websites still show him as an employee.
Normally, I would have done a post sooner but it is obvious why I am doing the post today and it is still weeks before arraignment.
According to the complaint, Dusel's blood alcohol level was .22. He is charged with Count 1 DUI , Count 2 driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit and that both these alleged offenses are within 10 years of another DUI offense. Both counts have an enhancement that Dusel's BAC was .15% or more.
