CHP releases details about the arrest of 26-year-old Selah Town of Carlotta for DUI last night in Eureka. 20-year-old Ronnie Franklin of McKinleyville sustained major injuries and was immediately transported to St. Joseph Hospital.

"California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers investigated a traffic crash, within an active construction zone and within the city limits of Eureka. The crash resulted in major injuries and led to the arrest of a driver suspected of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

On Wednesday, September 16th, at 11:24 p.m. the CHP Humboldt Communications Center and the Eureka Police Department Communications Center received 911 calls for a traffic crash on US-101 (Broadway Avenue) around Sunset Drive, within an active Cal-Trans construction zone, and within the city limits of Eureka. CHP officers and Eureka Police Department officers responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers contacted 26-year-old Selah Town of Carlotta and 20-year-old Ronnie Franklin of McKinleyville. Franklin sustained major injuries and was immediately transported to St. Joseph Hospital. Town suffered suspected minor injuries.

The initial investigation determined Town was driving a black 2016 GMC Yukon, northbound on Broadway Avenue approaching Sunset Drive. A lane closure for the right lane was established north of Town’s location. Franklin, a pedestrian, was working within the closed lane. Town, for reasons still under investigation, allowed her GMC to cross from the left lane into the closed right traffic lane. The GMC crashed into Franklin, which resulted in major injuries to Franklin. Franklin was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment. Town was arrested on scene for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. "
