46-year-old Nicholas Bertell arrested by EPD for felony DUI

46-year-old Nicholas Bertell was arrested by EPD for felony DUI. He posted bond.

On September 24, 2026, at approximately 4:20 p.m., Officers with the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to the 4700 block of Fairway Drive for a report of a head-on traffic collision involving a white Toyota Tacoma and a gray Nissan Altima.

Upon arrival, Officers contacted the driver of the Nissan Altima, who was suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Officers also contacted the driver of the Toyota Tacoma, identified as 46-year-old Nicholas Bertell of Bayside. 

Bertell was exhibiting signs and symptoms consistent with being under the influence of alcohol. 

During the investigation, Officers determined Bertell had been driving under the influence of alcohol and took him into custody for felony DUI causing injury and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher.

Bertell was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of injuries sustained in the collision before being booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
