After months of dragging this out, Troy Friedman entered the same plea

On the day of his trial, forcible rape suspect Troy Friedman's trial was supposed to start, he pleaded guilty to an added count 2 false imprisonment. Count 1, the forcible rape charge was dismissed. 

Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum took the plea. Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor. Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin is Friedman's attorney.

After several continuances, Friedman finally entered a plea today. 

If you are not a regular reader, you will have to read previous coverage to see why it was set for yet another trial and change of plea.

Today, Deputy DA Rebecca Buckley-Stein appeared on the case for Ms. Timm. Deputy Public Defender Emery Welton for Mr. McLaughlin.

Mendocino Superior Court Judge Victoria Shanahan was assigned to this case since Friedman is Humboldt Superior Court clerk Bonnie Jenning's ex.

This is a conditional plea with a stipulation that no physical force was used. The plea to the charges is the same. Friedman pleaded guilty to an added count 2 false imprisonment. Count 1, the forcible rape charge was dismissed.

Sentencing is on 10/14.
