"I am sick of my apartment. Get me out of this prison. For three goddamn years."

Fifteen other people besides me live in my apartment complex. I only moved here a couple of months ago. Yet, for over an hour, they did nothing while an older disabled lady who lives downstairs screamed.

"I am sick of my apartment. Get me out of this prison. For three goddamn years."

Not even the one neighbor who checks on her sometimes. That neighbor finally went down after I called EPD for a welfare check. Officer Swanson had already arrived on scene. Finally, she got help. Officer Ryan Swanson is wonderful and he just left with her.

Kudos to Lori Deming for a picture that is worth ten thousand words

She posted it on Humboldt County on Alert and so far, the comments may surprise you. This homeless man is sitting in front of the American Cancer Society Thrift Store watching "It's a wonderful life."

Reminds me of the day I was walking on F Street in Old Town on my way to work. From a distance I saw a homeless man digging through the trash. What made this time different was that he found fast food barely eaten and thrown away. And then I heard him say, "Thank you Jesus." He disappeared into an alley and was gone.

I did not want to get closer as he was detained and EPD officers were doing a search. Old Town Officer Brian Ross and Officer Mark Meftah were two of three officers on scene.

Half an hour later, another search at 2nd and V.

This is just par for the course with the utter failure of Humboldt and California's tolerance for drugs, enabling those who don't want to change their destructive behavior and criminal justice reform that doesn't address the root causes.
