Whoever is updating Rex Bohn's website for 2024 made a snafu

I am not linking his  website but literally two minutes ago, nothing under endorsers and media. It says coming soon. We already know who most of the endorsers are. No surprise under testimonials until I came upon Neal Latt's name and the testimonial by Hank Beck. The 2024 primary is on March 5. Cliff Berkowitz isn't running against Rex Bohn in 2024. So these are recycled testimonials from the good ole boys and gals another snafu from the Rex campaign team that needs fixin? Git er done as you like to say Rex sans your usual snark.

You can pay incompetence on your dime Rex but not another term of you wasting taxpayer money on poor choices and decisions that cost Humboldt. Is Storme getting another call Rex? You certainly have enough in your money chest to pay someone to look over your tacky website. You can laugh all you want Rex when someone calls you out but you and your gaffes embarass Humboldt nationally. Rex, you are arrogant, disrespectful, selfish, entitled just like your buddies and funders. You and your buddies like the Fair Board waste taxpayer dollars as if it was monopoly money or your personal bank and attack anyone holding you accountable.

"Our office has 30 days from the time it was received in the Eureka Clerk’s office to complete the signature verification process"

The Elections Office received the Eureka Housing for All petition from the City of Eureka on Tuesday afternoon. I had followed up with Eureka Assistant Manager and City Clerk Pam Powell that morning and she was planning to send the petition over that day.

Attorney of forcible rape and domestic violence suspect threatens Jane Doe with "our own restraining order"

While waiting for another court case, I was there for Stephen Steed's arraignment yesterday. Steed was booked into the jail on August 8 on a Ramey warrant. Steed is out of custody. As Steed stood by his attorney, Ms. Kathleen Bryson, he clenched and unclenched his fists and his body was shaking with rage as Judge Steven Steward read charges against him. A protective order was filed in the criminal case and served. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees appeared on the case for the People.

Inmate who qualified to run for Garberville Fire Protection District got probation in his criminal case

I reported on August 16 and have been the only one to report that Humboldt County inmate  Christopher Brackett qualified to run as one of three candidate for the Garberville Fire Protection District.

Looks like Rexy has at least one challenger

Form

Looks like First District Supervisor Rex Bohn has a local filmmaker running against him. I followed up with elections about Rex and Gordon Clatworthy's 501 forms. Unlike Rex's Form 501 copy, the potential opponent's formhas one with initials. Rexy's treasurer is John Fullerton, just as I mentioned in my post last week about Rex soliciting donations without filing the appropriate form. Rex's form was filed in record time today. Will be interesting to  know when although it is obvious it was a last minute rush filing.

I checked with Humboldt Elections Administrative Analyst Christina Strevey, "We will be posting the redacted version of Rex Bohn’s 501 on our website. Until then, I can confirm that he filed a 501 Candidate Intention Statement with our office. That particular form does not note what time the candidate come in, but it was mid afternoon."

"Gordon Clatworthy also came into our office yesterday morning asking questions about the candidate process and filed a 501 with our office. That form in redacted version will also be uploaded to our website for viewing. He has filed no other paperwork with our office."

On his personal Facebook page, Clatworthy has two posts about his positions.

Kudos to Ryan Burns for the video and quote about Rex being unaware his campaign had yet to file a form 501

Lost Coast Outpost and I have had our differences but I believe in giving credit where credit is due as well as thanks. It wasn't always so adversarial.

Kudos to Ryan Burns for posting the video of Rex asking for donations at his campaign announcement. 🙄 if you believe Rex was unaware that his campaign had yet to file a Form 501. Why did Rex not name his accountant? I was correct. John Fullerton is his treasurer, according to the 460 form filed on 7/31/23. I also appreciate the link to my post and recognition about reporting it firsr last week.

80 year old resists arrest for alleged vehicle theft

On Aug. 27, 2023, at about 4:21 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the Ferndale area for the report of a vehicle theft.

"This woman should not receive a second opportunity having failed the first time"

The warrant surrender scheduled in Aunna Bollman's two 2023 cases for October was vacated. Her 2022 criminal case is trailing. Dates changed once again and an OR/bail hearing took place this afternoon in all three cases.

Convicted felon who led law enforcement on a chase from Eureka to Arcata charged with three felonies

Remember the posts I did about the convicted felon with a self inflicted wound who led EPD through a chase from Eureka then ended up being apprehended in Arcata. My last post was about him being released from the hospital. I knew the identity and did not reveal it in the past posts.

Hit and run suspect preliminary will not take place tomorrow

Mr. Ben Okin filed a motion to continue hit and run suspect Jose Guzman Jimenez's preliminary hearing scheduled for tomorrow. The motion was granted by Judge Kelly Neel despite objection by Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees. Preliminary hearing was rescheduled for October 3.

Flee from a traffic stop, get arrested for a DUI

On Aug. 28, 2023, at about 7:24 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the area of School Road in McKinleyville attempted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation. The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued.

Former Miss Hoopa's sex case dismissed and record will be expunged

Last month,I reported that former Miss Hoopa Kayla Brown filed a petition to dismiss her sex offense case and expunge her record. After three continuances with different Judges, on Monday Judge Joyce Hinrichs granted that request.

Devon Cathey resolves his case on second day of jury trial for a stipulated term of 17 years

I just did a post after trial assignment. I reported on the defense offer at trial assignment. The DA made an offer on 8/28 which Cathey rejected, then more negotiation.

Looks like Devon Cathey finally woke up to the reality that the DA won't keep negotiating and he risks going to prison. Cathey has the best defense attorney, Ms. Andrea Sullivan but he and his record were up against the best Humboldt prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm. She is doing back to back trials and winning.

Parlier farm labor contractor and two growers fined $1.9 Million for wage theft violations

Open Corporates shows a Franchise Tax Board suspension for MG Luna. Google shows the contractor temporarily closed. According to Federalpay, MG Luna Inc  received a Coronavirus-related PPP loan from the SBA of $124,473.00 in July, 2020. As of last status which is a year old,  the loan had not been fully paid or forgiven.

If you really want to know Eureka City Hall works  and how Humboldt Superior Court bungles, read the appeals court reversal of this case involving David Tyson, Brian Gerving and Mike Knight.

"Appellant John Fitzhugh sued his former employer, respondent City of Eureka (the City), for unlawful retaliation and age discrimination. The trial court granted summary judgment for the City and Fitzhugh now appeals. We reverse."

Eureka Housing for all turns in 2,811 signatures, a lot more than the minimum required for the ballot initiative

Today, Mike Munson, co-signer of the Housing for All Initiative, turned in petitions with 2,811 City of Eureka registered voters’ signatures requesting the Initiative be placed on the next ballot. Ten percent, or 1,600 signatures, is the minimum required to have a measure placed on the ballot.

The signatures need to be validated. I have contacted Eureka Assistant City Manager and City Clerk Pam Powell to confirm and ask if the signatures have been turned in to the elections office. She plans to as of 10: 20 a.m. Tuesday. she had not sent them to the election yet. I did a previous post with deadlines. Eureka Housing for All also issued a press release.

Normally, I like to be the first to publish news, if you are upset about the email exchange, ask Bill Bertain what was his point to send it to media?

Local lawyer William Bertain sent an email  last to several local media sources and Rob Arkley. A standard confidentiality disclaimer is only attached to one email exchange and that confidentiality is between Security National and William Bertain. Mr. Bertain chose to forward these emails. I do not believe in printing snippets of an email exchange. The public deserves to read all the information forwarded. The email exchange mentions Senator Mike McGuire, the Great Redwood trail, Crowley, Pacific Legal Foundation.

I reached out to Rob Arkley and Bill Bertain this morning. Rob Arkey responded right away, "I know nothing of this.  What is the mail chain?."I fwded him the email. I have not heard from Bill Bertain.

I have done more than my due diligence reaching out to Rob Arkley and Bill Bertain. I don't know what Bill Bertain was thinking but he is the one sent this email exchange to third parties who did not request it. Even though I knew I could publish the email contents, I waited to add the email exchange and updated it late this morning.

"We are writing to you as the sitting board of the Weott Community Services District, asking for a resolution to case # 202206355. Our former Administrative Manager, Julie Santibanez, was suspended in December of 2022, due to allegations of embezzlement and theft of Weott CSD's funds"

(WCSD website)

I received this email late Sunday afternoon. "I have heard that Julie Santibanez,  former employee at Weott Community Services District, has been arrested and charged with embezzlement and identity fraud. But who knows. There was a ton of info turned over to the DA. But I can't find any info anywhere. Perhaps you can dig into the status of this?"

Santibanez does have a 2023 case in which she is represented by Mr. Michael Acosta.

Devon Cathey needs to stop hitching his case to his recent wife and risking going to trial

Devon Cathey needs to stop hitching his case to his recent wife. Vonda Carlson and her attorney R.J. Leohner are screwing up a plea deal Ms. Andrea Sullivan, Cathey's attorney, is trying to negotiate. The DA should not  dismiss this case against Carlson aka Liles who picked up a new case with her June 2023 arrest. This after she failed to appwar in court and was allowed to remain out of custody. Mr. Leohner has the nerve to ask for a motion to dismiss in the co-defendant case.

So Judge Kreis being out of town for the nth time is a reason to for the court clerk to reject a 170.3 recusal in County vs former Deputy Counsel lawsuit?

On 8/25, there was a hearing  in the lawsuit filed by County of Humboldt against Cathie Childs. The preliminary injunction was continued to 9/29. After Judge Timothy Canning denied the County injunction and TRO, Humboldt Presiding Judge Gregory Kreis decided to assign the case to himself. I reported on this previously.

Rex encouraged people to donate to his campaign but has not submitted Form 501

( Rex Bohn for Supervisor website)

A candidate in California must file Form 501 before raising any funds. A candidate for state or local office must file this form for each election, including reelection to the same office.

Third District Supervisor Mike Wilson is the only one who submitted this form to the elections office. I checked with elections a few minutes ago and they looked at their log going back to the beginning of this year.

DA charges Clinton Ellis-Gilmore with one count of indecent exposure

Mckinleyville resident Clinton Ellis-Gilmore has been charged with PC 314 (1) one count of indecent exposure. Arraignment is on 9/25. I had more details in my post about his arrest than the DA's complaint.

19 year charged with attempted murder, assault and great bodily injury enhancement of victim who was her acquaintance

Today, the  District Attorney filed a complaint  charging 19 year old Trinity June Thomas with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and a special allegation of great bodily injury. Alleged victim is Jessica Minasian.

Jail log and complaint lists her name as Trinity June Thomas so going forward, I will not be using Trinty Thomas Remington. I have requested the booking photo twice but EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell needs the okay to release it from EPD detectives "who are still attempting to make contact with an involved party to wrap up a portion of their investigation.  Having the booking photo released could hurt the integrity of the investigation."

Rio Dell molestor sentenced to 50 to life plus 2 years 8 months in prison

Judge Christopher Wilson sentenced convicted molestor Frederick Adams was sentenced to 50 years to life plus two years and 8 months to run consecutively. Adams maximum exposure would have been 75 years to life.

"He was eligible to be sentenced to for multiple enhancements," Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal told me after sentencing. "For two victims, there were three  different incidents of molestation. The jury found Adams guilty on all  three."

"Judge Wilson sentenced him 25 to life for two enhancements. The third 25 to life enhancement for one victim would run concurrently. Under the older parole law, he would be eligible for parole in 20 years."

Will Daniel Fernandez-Ralls take the plea offer today or risk going to trial next week?

After intervention this morning, attempted murder suspect Daniel Fernandez-Ralls is going over a plea form with his attorney, Ms. Kathleen Bryson.

Just as I predicted, Aunna Bollman was booked into jail yesterday

In my August 23 post about attempted terroristic threats suspect Aunna Bollman's failure to appear in court on her two criminal cases, I wrote that given who Bollman has threatened, I am sure she will be arrested as soon as possible. And she was picked up on her bench warrants the next day by Probation. She was booked yesterday on a no bail status.

She has a hearing later this afternoon for one of her civil restraining orders. In this request, you have DA staff, County officials and employees as protected parties.

See how much Humboldt, Mendocino and Del Norte got from the $3.1 billion allocated for infrastructure

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) this week allocated more than $3.1 billion for projects that will improve the state’s transportation infrastructure, making it safer, more sustainable and more reliable.

Six year four months in prison with 1204 custody credits for Little Eagle Moon

Little Eagle Moon was finally sentenced in his two 2022 cases yesterday. Moon admitted his parole violation for a stipulated term in his attempted murder case. Sentencing had only been continued three times. I reported earlier this month on the dismissal of his third case which was for possession of fentanyl in the jail.

Does Kreis have a plan B? Will Estelle Fennel run against Michelle Bushnell?

(the photo of the boat and incident in the lawsuit against Kreis)

(This is photo I took of Estelle Fennell at the Chicken by the Sea dinner in 2013)

How many names does this criminal threats, kidnapping and domestic abuse suspect have?

Jose Antonio Cruz Jr aka Jose Cruz was arrested yesterday by HCSO on a warrant. He has various aliases and e court does not list date of birth and the full name for each case. The booking photo is from the 8/22 arrest which matches the charges and warrant issued in a 2023 case. Another 20 year old arrested for violent crimes.

19 year old arrested by EPD for attempted murder

HCSO jail log has her listed as Trinity June Thomas. Facebook shows name as Trinity Thomas Remington. Court records show a search for both names. DA complaint has the Trinity June Thomas name.

19 year old Trinity June Thomas was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for PC 664/187(a) attempted murder.

I  asked EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell for information. Thomas stabbed a 41 year old acquaintance. The investigation is ongoing. EPD issued a press release at 2:18 p.m. with more details which has been added to the post.

Her facebook profile still has a last name which was in a 2006 probate case I checked in e court. She is facebook friends with frequently arrested Melvin Matthews who snitches to the DA and testifies against other inmates. He put a creative spelling to his last name on Facebook but it is the sane man I have seen several times in court. Will he turn on Trinity? Another Humboldt arrest and if charges are filed, Humboldt court case with drama and a cast of characters.

Rio Dell molestor Daniel Sanchez pleads guilty on day of trial and accepts the 55 years in prison he previously rejected

Convicted molestor Daniel Sanchez previously rejected the DA's offer of 55 years. Wasted court time, the DA's time, wasted his attorney's time, wasted more time with several Marsden motions. Personally, I think the fool  deserved more time in prison but I am glad he saw sense and finally listened to Ms. Andrea Sullivan who he does not deserve. I was in court to see his verbal abuse of her and complete refusal to see the reality of the evidence against him for months. She still negotiated a plea for him. A resolution he would not have received with another lawyer.

His four victims will now be spared the horror of reliving their trauma in court. Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor.

Fortuna woman charged with attempted terroristic threats against DA staff, elected officials fails to show up for court

Attempted terroristic threats suspect Aunna Bollman had trial confirmation this morning in two of her 2023 court cases this morning. She also has a 2022 case which was one for disposition reset. Bollman failed to appear for court and a bench warrant was issued by Judge Steven Steward. Supervised release was terminated.

Chase Fullerton arrested for elder abuse, probation violation and vandalism

Chase Andrew Fullerton is a name you frequently see on the daily jail arrest log. HCSO just issued a press release about Fullerton's August 21 arrest for elder abuse, probation violation and vandalism.

He is not connected to local CPA and Citizens for a Better Eureka member John Fullerton. In 2016, I did a post on Chase Fullerton and called John Fullerton who told me, "I never heard of him before. As far as I know there are two other Fullerton families in Humboldt County that are not related to me.  One is in Willow Creek and the other is in Fortuna."

Verdict in Alderpoint homicide

Verdict in Alderpoint homicide suspect Jake Combs trial. Jury started deliberations yesterday morning. They had a verdict the next morning. There is a Facebook post from Trevor Earley's mother about the verdict.

Combs was found guilty of first degree murder and the special enhancement informally known s the "10 20 life" law.  First degree murder is 25 to life. The enhancement additional time because a gun was used in the commission of the crime. The DA press release issued at 4:58 p.m. today confirms Combs faces 50 year to life. Sentencing is on September 15.

HCSO needs your help with vandalism at the Fort Seward station causing more than $200,000 in damages

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding a recent vandalism to a Southern Humboldt power station.

Former Greene Lily location now Wok In Wok Out

The sign in the window says Asian Eatery and Boba Tea. The instagram account does not add more information except saying great noodles. It isn't open yet. The applicant for the business license is Ronnie Worasen. Ronnie used to be the owner of Hunan in Eureka. I just spoke to his brother Steve who is the new owner of Hunan. He confirmed older brother Ronnie is the owner of Wok In Wok Out.

"Following recent high-profile incidents, including the horrific murder of a shop owner in Southern California",CA launches first statwide campaign against hate crimes

California Governor Gavin Newsom just issued a press release. "As hate crimes rise across the country, California is increasing funding to support victims and help prevent acts of hate, launching the first major statewide multilingual “CA vs Hate” awareness and education campaign,  and reminding educators about the importance of inclusion in education."

Two separate arrests for criminal threats and battery, one has an attempted arson charge

19 year old Ocean Alexander Collins was arrested by HCSO yesterday for PC 242 battery and PC 422 criminal threats.

45 year old Kevin Brunelle was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for PC 422 criminal threats, PC 242 battery and PC 664/451(a) attempted arson.

It used to be DUIS and drug charges were the most frequent arrests on the Humboldt daily jail log. Now domestic abuse, child endangerment and criminal threats are the crimes seen on a regular and daily basis.

To "IR" or whoever you are, why I did not publish your comment and hit piece on EPD

I have an email for news tips. You did not use that email. That was my first red flag. Email addresses with no name, no verification. Second red flag. You can have your opinion about Eureka Police Department but I don't publish hit pieces with no verification and there was nothing newsworthy about your "comment" and it is not reflective of how the community feels about EPD.

Alderpoint homicide suspect's fate in hand of the jury now

Alderpoint homicide suspect Jake Combs fate is in the hands of the jury now. Deliberations to start after closing arguments tomorrow.

Yurok Tribe moves into one of their original buildings in Eureka, UIHS has an Aquatic Center in Myrtletown

I walk by the former Humboldt Title building all the time today I noticed a Yurok Tribe sign. 1034 6th Street in Eureka is now the Yurok Tribal TANF Building. According to a Yurok Tribe Client Services Facebook post, "We have moved back into one of our original buildings located at 1034 6th St., Eureka. "
