Two more counts added for John Beideman for his arraignment on information for the jury trial. He will be arraigned March 1 in Courtrom 2.

Marci Kitchen attorneys file motion to leave or withdraw from case

On 2/28, a motion was filed by both attorneys in the Marci Kitchen's case to "leave or withdraw as attorney of record per CCP 284. A hearing on that motion is scheduled for March 6 at 8:30 a.m. in Courtroom 2.

I just confirmed and spoke with Mr. Patrik Griego. He told me, "withdrawing will not cause delay of trial date. It is 3 months before trial and the experts are available on date set. "

Jessica Springer repositioned Tim Smith's body before law enforcement arrived

Officer Ryan Richardson resumed testimony this morning in the Jon Goldberg case.

Tim Smith was found lying face down with his arm tucked under his body. Officer Richardson rolled him over to check for signs of life.

Giampapa was sentenced to 9 years, 4 months

Keith Giampapa was sentenced this morning. Judge Reinholtsen's tentative decision was his final decision.

"This case is about a decision made by the defendant to take revenge."

Another alleged local chomo with 17 counts and two victims wants his day in court

Everett Leroy Spillard is no stranger to the Humboldt Superior Court. Family Law, Traffic, Criminal. Today, was the first day to start jury selection in his 2017 alleged sex abuse case.

Initial autopsy results regarding body found in Mattole inconclusive


Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified the body recovered in the Mattole Beach area as that of missing person Hana Hammer.

A hiker located Hammer’s body in the Mattole Beach area on Feb. 21, 2018.
Hammer was last seen in the Petrolia area on Jan. 25, and was reported missing on Feb. 2.

HCSO PIO Samantha Karges said, "the Mattole body, our initial autopsy results are inconclusive. Due to the decomposition of the body, we cannot positively confirm the sex of the body. However, we are doing more investigation and hope to have an update within the coming weeks."

Officers at trailer park on Jacobs Avenue and officers near McDonalds

EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell sent me this response regarding the McDonald's case Monday morning:

"On February 25, 2018, at about 1:24 p.m., an officer with the Eureka Police Department attempted a traffic stop near West Avenue and 6th Streets.  The driver immediately fled from the officer but eventually yielded at the intersection of S and 3rd Streets.

Louise Turpin pleaded not guilty to an additional felony; assault involving one of her daughters.

Day 4 of jury selection for Jon Goldberg. Before 4 p.m., they had 6 men and 6 women in the jury and four alternates.

Around p.m, the defense excused a juror, then while trying to fill that seat, all the alternate jurors that had just gone through lengthy questioning by the defense for about an hour were excused. Prosecution excused one juror; defense four.

A commercial marijuana entrepreneur operating out of southern Humboldt County was convicted by plea yesterday afternoon in the Mendocino County Superior Court of possessing marijuana for the purposes of sale while utilizing workers under the age of 21 years, a misdemeanor.
