Opening statements and testimony in the Jon Goldberg case could begin as early as Monday
Second day of jury selection in the Jon Goldberg case. Today, Jon Goldberg was dressed in a blue jacket.
Twelve jurors and five alternates have been seated and Judge Cribbs, Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal and Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo questioned the jurors.
I saw at least two of the twelve jurors from the morning excused.
A motion to compel discovery had been filed by Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal and was heard at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
I am not going to go into the details of the arguments presented by both attorneys since the case is in the middle of jury selection. If anything becomes an issue in the middle of the trial, I have notes.
Ballastics and Dr. Renouf, one of the defense experts, were discussed. Judge Graham Cribbs gave his ruling. While jury selection is "on track", if everything stays on schedule, opening statements and witnesses may start as early as Monday. On Friday evening, I will confirm if jury selection has been completed.
Jurors have been told that the case is expected to end by or before March 26.

So after the defense changes their plea to not guilty by reason of Temporary Insanity it's doubtful this ends in March. This is clearly a crime of Passion, you won't find twelve citizens without empathy to find him guilty of premeditated murder.
