Giampapa was sentenced to 9 years, 4 months

Keith Giampapa was sentenced this morning. Judge Reinholtsen's tentative decision was his final decision.

Keith Giampapa just entered a written plea before his jury trial in which he was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Giampapa plead guilty to two counts of attempted murder, "under theory of aiding and abetting".   The people dismissed portions of the complaint that alleged the attempted murder was premeditated. They dismissed all other charges and another felony case. In the case that was dismissed, Giampapa was charged with possessing a controlled substance in jail.

This is an"open plea" which means the people can argue for the maximum term of 11 years 4 months. Giampapa agreed to the plea and being sentenced to 9 years, 4 months and that he be allowed to argue for the lower term of 7 years and 4 months.

Judge Dale Reinholtsen already indicated that his tentative decision will be for 9 years, 4 months based on his knowledge of the case.

Deputy DA Roger  Rees is prosecuting the case. Deputy Public Defender Ben McLauglin is representing Giampapa. Ms. Kathleen Bryson was in court on behalf of the families.
