Douglas Rivera, a 40 year old pastor, suspected of sexually assaulting a preteen female exchange student from China, was on the run and turned himself in today to Covina Police Department. He was accompanied by his attorney.
Rivera is suspected of watching two girls through their motel window, performing sex acts on himself and then entered into their room and allegedly assaulted one girl.
He is out of custody after posting bail. According to this article and others, the bail was $100,000 but the Los Angeles Times and other articles states Rivera's bail is set at $280,000.
According to the LA Times, Sgt. Ray Marquez said that Rivera was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including sexual assault, indecent exposure and burglary with intent to commit a crime.
The preteen, visiting the United States on a school trip from China, was allegedly molested by Rivera, 40, when she was staying with her friends — all of whom aged between 10 and 12 — at the Vanllee Hotel and Suites.
A footage from surveillance cameras placed around the facility showed Rivera parking his vehicle in the hotel’s parking lot Wednesday and peering into the room where the schoolgirls were staying. He reportedly masturbated outside the room and then pretended to talk to someone on the phone for the next half an hour.
Rivera then knocked on the girls’ door. Thinking it was their chaperone, the girls opened the door, allowing Rivera easy access into the room. According to the police, he proceeded to assault one of the girls.
Rivera posted a video on Instagram saying something happened in that motel and he didn't do anything wrong.
