On 06-29-2018 at approximately 9:44 a.m., Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputies received a call for service for a suspicious male in the Gualala  area.  The male would later be identified as suspect Richard Brelo.

Linda Anderson has been notified as victim of yesterday's collision in Bayside



The next of kin has been notified and the vicitim in yesterday's fatal collision has been identified as Linda Anderson, 50 years old, of Bayside, CA.  The California Highway Patrol is continuing it's investigation into the cause of the collision.  Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Humboldt Area CHP at 707-822-5981.

Joshua Richard Ruoff guilty of first degree murder of Timothy Sweeting



A Mendocino County Superior Court jury returned from its deliberations just before noon with a guilty verdict against the defendant.

Seng Yang to be arraigned on 16 counts including forcible rape of a minor and exhibiting a minor in pornography


Seng Yang  is scheduled to be arraigned on information on July 3. The complaint for the jury trial has 16 counts. Yang's charges include forcible rape of Jane Doe (his own daughter) and exhibiting a minor in pornography.

Trial setting was scheduled for Clayton Lasinski yesterday At the last hearing,  Lasinski entered an additional plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Two doctors were appointed to evaluate Lasinski.

Month long investigation into meth sales results in two arrests

I followed up with Eureka Police Chief Steve Watson about the EPD investigation into the Pete Yellowbird's video and Yellowbird's allegations.

Motion to increase Ray Christie's bail denied but his Humboldt properties subject to search and seizure


The District Attorney's motion to increase Ray Christie's bail by $155,000 was denied by Judge Dale Reinholtsen. He also denied the DA's request that Christie not own or possess any animals until court proceedings concluded.

Motion to consolidate cases was granted. Defense had no objection. Judge Reinholtsen did modify one bail requirement. Christie has to submit to search and seizure of his properties in Humboldt to appropriate authorities.

Motion to continue jury trial for J. D. Grow granted


Motion to continue and trial confirmation scheduled for J.D. Grow's case on June 21. Continued by stipulation to this morning. Trial setting is scheduled for July 24.

Count 1 is PC 288  (c) 1. Lewd act upon a child.

Carpathian's trial for alleged sexual abuse of his stepdaughter set for November 5



Trial setting was scheduled for alleged molestor John Beideman this morning. The new jury trial date for Beideman is November 5. Trial confirmation is October 22.

Request to reduce alleged molestor Mario Alexander's 2.7 million bail denied


Alleged molestor Mario Alexander had a jury trial scheduled on June 25. It was continued by the defense. Alexander is represented by Mr. Russ Clanton.

Today, Judge Feeney heard and denied the the DA's request for no bail. However, he denied the defense request to reduce bail citing public safety and seriousness of alleged offenses. Bail remains at 2.7 million.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is prosecuting the case. I have covered some of Alexander's court hearings previously.

Doctor's reports were due for Ewa Misztal on June 13. Both doctor's interviewed Misztal. The hearing on the doctor's reports was continued by stipulation to this morning. It was continued, again, to 7/11.

While the City of Eureka figures out who will replace Cyndi Day Wilson, here are some logistical problems


I was at the clerk's office checking on some files I requested. Christina, the paralegal for the City of Eureka stopped by.  She was directed by staff to a Supervisor. Cyndi Day-Wilson's name has to be removed as the attorney on a website, who will have access to Sustain, the court records management system and what access will the paralegal have until an interim or permanent attorney is appointed.

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 today in Janus v. AFSCME that non-union workers cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions.

Family earning $117,000 qualifies as low income in the Bay area where housing prices have increased 64 percent over last five years


According to a report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the median price for a single-family home in the Bay Area is now $935,000. A family earning $117,000 now qualifies as "low income" in the region.

Supreme Court overturned CA law requiring clinics and centers to notify clients about abortion services




In a 5-4 ruling today the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a decision on California law by the Ninth Circuit and sent the case back for further consideration.
