No tax on soda and sugary drinks passes thanks to political deal between labor snd the beverage industry
California cities and counties are banned from taxing sodas and other sugary drinks for the next 12 years. Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1838.
This was a result of political deal between the beverage industry and organized labor.
Proponents of a separate initiative, agreed to remove their measure from the November ballot.
