Motion to continue David Kobak's jury trial granted, trial setting July 18


Jury trial for David Kobak was scheduled for July 9, it was vacated. There was a motion to continue scheduled to be heard today.  Trial setting is scheduled for July 18.

Defense needs time for investigation and experts are scheduled to meet with Kobak. People objected on behalf of the victim's. Judge Christopher Wilson granted the motion, he said "with reluctance" but he found good cause.

Records  subpoenaed from the Monterey Sheriff's Department were given to defense.

Kobak is charged with one Count; murder of  Frederick William Loftus. Count 1 has a special allegation that Kobak "personally and intentionally discharged a firearm" causing great bodily injury or death to Loftus.

Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo is representing Kobak. Deputy District Attorney Whitney Barnes is prosecuting the case.
