Federal Judge dismisses two California lawsuits against big oil companies
In a 16 page ruling, a federal judge dismissed two lawsuits by San Francisco and Oakland that sought to hold big oil companies liable for the role of fossil fuels in the Earth's warming environment.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup said that Congress and the president, not a federal judge, were best suited to address fossil fuels' contribution to global warming.

Judge Alsup issued an order denying the plaintiffs’ motion to remand these high-profile actions back to state court, finding that “plaintiffs’ claims, if any, are governed by federal common law.
