48 new cases of COVID 19 reported since Friday

 

Forty-eight additional cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday. A total of 898 county residents have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began, with more than 300 cases reported in November alone. 

Courts remain closed to the public but jury trials to continue under purple tier

HCSO's "No Shave November" raises $2,910 for local youth


Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, brought an end to ‘No Shave November’ at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout the month of November, deputies and staff were given the opportunity to opt out of dress code, growing out their facial hair and/or coloring their hair and nails blue, for a donation of $30 to Humboldt CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) or Wild Souls Ranch.

After my initial post, I received an update that a new health officer has been hired. Per her resignation letter, tomorrow is Dr. Teresa Frankovich's last day as the County Health Officer.

Newsom threatening new stay at home order and more restrictions


Referring to the increase in COVID 19 cases and impact on ICUs, Gavin Newsom is threatening more restrictions and a stay at home order for California counties in the purple tier.

Victoria Shirley has been arrested for assault,domestic battery, stabbing and today she was, once again, wasting EPD and medical resources.

Some donated theie entire monthly paycheck;  others sold possessions and food.

On 11-27-2020 at 7:05 AM Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an armed robbery at a reported permitted cannabis farm in the 12000 block of Pratt Ranch Road in Hopland, California.

CA GOP has won 3 house seats, Mike Garcia likely to be the 4th

David Valadao has won the House race in California’s 21st Congressional District. Two years ago, he lost this seat to his opponent.

Michelle Steel won in the 48th District and Young Kim in the 39th District. Mike Garcia is in the lead in the 25th District.

So far from EPD investigation "it appears this was a targeted incident; however, it is not known if the suspects intended on shooting the female "

On November 26, 2020, at about 10:26 p.m., officers with The Eureka Police Department responded to a gas station at the 1500 block of 5th Street for the report of a shooting.  

31 additional cases of COVID 19 reported today


Thirty-one additional cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing to 850 the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann's decision was justified. The three judges on the panel were all appointed by Republican presidents, including  one who was appointed by Trump.

Murder suspect Ryan Tanner's preliminary hearing resumed on November 23, continued on November 24 and is still going on today.

People and defense offers to resolve Brandon Watson case have not worked out so far


Trial assignment was scheduled for murder suspect Brandon Watson on this morning. Jury trial will not start on November 30. The case is scheduled in Courtroom 3 for December 1 in front of Judge Christopher Wilson. No jury interviews will begin on that date.

EPD arrests fugitive during early am hours



Gary Lloyd McConkey, a fugitive, was arrested early this morning by Eureka Police Department.

 EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell said the warrant is from Douglas County, Oregon.

On Nov. 23, 2020, at about 1:40 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 8500 block of Wilder Ridge Road in Honeydew for the report of suspicious individuals driving a U-Haul truck and attempting to unlawfully access properties in the area.

Humboldt has county coordinator and group working on this effort. The French Laundry debacle, the curfew in purple tiers and 10 months of pandemic related fatigue isn't helping Newsom. A Politico article interviewed some Democrats fed up with Newsom and mentioned the hurdles the California GOP faces in this effort.

Rob Christensen had a special set intervention on November 16. On November 17, he had 10 cases on the calendar. Today, he waived his preliminary hearing, entered a plea to resolve his cases. Judge Kaleb Cockrum accepted his plea.

Florida's Republican Senator Rick Scott tested positive for COVID 19 this week. Now Georgia's GOP Senator Kelly Loeffler is self isolating after a possible COVID-19 infection. She recently  held joint events with Georgia GOP Senator David Perdue. Both are in a runoff election which will be held on January 5.
