$73 million settlement in class action lawsuit against former UCLA gynecologist

(Heaps)

The University of California system reached a preliminary $73 million settlement with alleged victims of sexual abuse by  former UCLA obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. James Heaps.

The preliminary settlement has to be approved by a federal judge and  includes a requirement that UCLA create a fund to pay as many as 6,600 victims participating in the class-action lawsuit filed by seven women. The settlement also requires UCLA to pay all attorneys' fees or litigation expenses separately.
