"I will smash your face, you punk bitch", Monty Caid threatens me in broad daylight


About 15 minutes ago, I decided to get some fresh air and go check out the Friday Night Market. I was exhausted, just looking to relax.

A guy came up to me at the corner of 2nd and H.  I didn't recognize him at first but he is Monty Caid, Xandra Manns' son.

He said,"How are you dude?" I responded back with a friendly response.

Congratulations to Lt. Young and Lt. Luna on their well deserved retirement


Today is their last official day of work. Pictured above are Lt. Marco Luna, Sheriff William Honsal and Lt. Dennis Young.

Sheriff Honsal told me that Lt. Sam Williams has replaced Lt. Young as the Criminal Investigation Division Lieutenant.  "We haven't selected a replacement for Lt. Luna."

Lt. Young is one of my favorites and while his retirement is well deserved, like Steve Knight, he will be missed for his kindness, professionalism and leadership.

James Hearn pleads guilty to three counts of lewd and lascivious act on a minor


James Hearn entered a guilty plea yesterday to three counts of PC 288 (a), lewd and lascivious act on a minor, for a stipulated term of 12 years. Sentencing is September 26.

At the last court hearing, Ms. Jennifer Dixon was appointed for a limited purpose of looking into whether a motion can be filed for Craft to withdraw his plea for voluntary manslaughter.

PG and E if there was a gas leak in the neighborhood, shouldn't you notify people?


Both my home and office are in Old Town. I wasn't there this afternoon but got a message from John Fullerton around 2:30. PG and E and their sub contractor Pro Life have been working in the alleys and the surrounding area where both our offices are located on the gas and sewer lines.

Patrick Michael Marshall is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on three felonies. All sexual offenses. Charges listed below as well as previous post which has more details.

Change of plea for Eshghipour taken off calendar


Maziar Eshghipour's case was scheduled today for setting of preliminary hearing, change of plea and arraignment on the third amended complaint. Arraignment and setting of preliminary hearing was continued to September 17 at the request of Deputy District Attorney Tobias Hasler.

Not showing up for court seems to be Alicia Rose's MO


After showing up late for court on Monday for the dismissal she requested of the restraining order Brian Leiteritz filed against her, Rose got an order for continuance to August 28 and served Ms. Cyndy Day- Wilson who is representing Leiteritz in the family court case. Rose did not show on August 28. The Monday hearing had been continued to August 29.

Rose was MIA again and on Ms. Wilson's request, the request for dismissal was dismissed with prejudice.

Arrested for the same charge a week ago, released on OR and five days later back in custody



Albert Livingston Boone was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for HS11370.1(a), possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm.

Arrested for the same charge on 8/21. Released on OR on 8/23.

Patrick Michael Marshall was booked into jail yesterday after he turned himself in on a Ramey warrant for PC 261(a) (1), rape "where a person is incapable, because of a mental disorder or developmental or physical disability, of giving legal consent, and this is known or reasonably should be known to the person committing the act." Booking photo has been requested.

HCSO gives Deputy Borges a retirement send off then puts her to work



Sheriff William Honsal, Undersheriff J.D. Braud , her co workers, and the Board of Supevisors recognized Deputy Leslie Borges today for her dedicated service.  She has been with the county since 1996. Although she is officially retired, Deputy Borges will be around as extra help.

Trial confirmation was scheduled on August 27 for Danny Waters. Deputy District Attorney Steven Steward asked Judge Lawrence Killoran that a further trial confirmation be scheduled "in hopes of a resolution." That date is September 4.

Frequently booked and convicted sex offender Randy Knopf back in jail



Convicted sex offender Randy Charles Knopf was arrested yesterday by Eureka Police Department for PC290.011(a), failure to register as a sex offender. This code specifically applies to someone who is in a transient living situation.

He is frequently booked and listed below are only two of his arrests. Since he was not arraigned within the statutory period, Knopf was released from custody.

Joshua Antonio Ruja was supposed to be sentenced today. His attorney is Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield who was not in court today. Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin was present with Ruja.

Woman from Eureka creating disturbance on Cummings Road arrested on various charges



On 08-23-2019, at about 6:00 AM, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received numerous calls from citizens reporting a female on Cummings Road in Eureka that appeared to be in distress.  It was also reported the female was in possession of a firearm.

Bench warrants recalled but Jacquelyn Bradley amended on new charges



Bench warrants totaling $110, 000 were held until today for Jacquelyn Bradley. She has three cases. One is for burglary after she was arrested for breaking into an EPD officer's house. Another case is a violation of probation. Today, Bradley was arraigned on a second amended petition to revoke her misdemeanor probation.

Deal or no deal for Aaron Hungerford?




Jury trial was cheduled for Aaron Hungerford on August 26.  He had three cases, all from 2019. At trial confirmation last week, the People and defense could not agree on a resolution.

This morning at trial assignment, it started out as the same situation. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees and Deputy Conflict Counsel Jennie Stepanian were able to work out a resolution.

On 08-07-2019 Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputies were asked to respond to a reported shooting which had occurred at about 10:30 PM that evening in the 14400 block of Highway 128 in Boonville, California .

Convicted molestor Michael Franco had trial confirmation scheduled this morning. Jury trial for September 3 was confirmed.

Convicted human trafficker David Anderson's preliminary rescheduled, as expected


A day after convicted human trafficker David Anderson's preliminary hearing was confirmed, Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps filed a motion to continue. On August 22, that motion was granted.

People's request to remand Ryder Stapp into custody denied


Ryder Stapp was in court this morning with his attorney, Mr. Neal Sanders. Substitution of attorney was filed on 8/21.

Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm had filed a motion to examine Stapp's source of bail. Mr. Timm also requested that Stapp be remanded into custody and had argued that the funds used to post Stapp's bail were obtained through felonious activity.
