The side of EPD that Vernon Price conveniently ignores for an agenda

(Corner of 2nd and F in Eureka)

7:45 a.m. on a Saturday morning and there are people on their bikes getting coffee and bagels, some walking their dogs, Old Town baristas getting ready for the weekend crowds and that peace is shattered by Alex screaming. You could hear him blocks away at my office.

Old Town Officer Brian Ross spoke with him, cited him and Alex was free to go. As I was taking his photo, Alex started talking to me, giving me what I call "the local troublemakers pitch." The talking points handed down to frequent troublemakers like Alex from certain people with an agenda. Break the law and then scream harassment!

Alex was detained until he calmed down and stopped bothering people like me just walking by. Another regular J. D. Pittman, who I have written about frequently, was staggering around drunk which is normal for him.

These bs talking points may work on do nothing protestors or online shit stirrers or people with an agenda to misrepresent how law enforcement deals with the homeless. The same people who are anti organizations like Betty Chinn, Eureka Mission and Teen Challenge as well as individuals like John Shelter who actually help people transition from the streets to hope and dignity.

It may work on someone who is not around town daily. I see EPD officers work with compassion, offer resources,  even to regular troublemakers like Alex, Chris and J. D. Pittman and treat them with respect.

Before Vernon Price, there was Verbena. After Vernon Price, there will be some other tool talking a lot of smack and doing absolutely nothing to help those on the street that are law abiding and desperately in need of help.

Those who want to make a change in their life are fine following rules; they take advantage of help and resources. There are many homeless people at local coffee shops and other places who do not cause problems and who are valued members of this community.

When Vernon Price, certain local "media" and activists take on the slumlords, corruption in Eureka and Humboldt and take concrete actions to help working people struggling every day, I might listen to what they have to say.

Most people are working two jobs, putting up with shitty living conditions, stressful work environments and barely paying bills. They also have rights to peace in their homes, to walk around town and use public places without being pestered and accosted by the frequent troublemakers.

If you want to sleep in your vehicle or the sidewalk and obey laws, no one cares. The police get called on those who use it to " park"and sell drugs out of the trunk as well as drunks and addicts who scream and yell all day and night, fighting with each other while canvassing cars and houses. Law abiding citizens who work, pay taxes deserve to get sleep and feel safe in their homes.

Google Vernon Price. Why did you leave Redding Vernon Price? Your Linkedin profile lists you founding a non profit for the homeless.
