Jeff Tsarnas' preliminary hearing continued

Preliminary hearing was continued to this morning for Jeff Tsarnas' hit and run. Tsarnas is charged with a violation of VC 2001 (a), felony hit and run causing injury or death.

It was continued to September 24 since his attorney, Mr. Neal Sanders is unavailable due to medical reasons. Ms. Kathleen Bryson appeared in court for Mr. Sanders. Barbara Kraft was ordered back for the September date.

At previous court hearings, it was stated on record that according to witnesses Tsarnas had been doing meth and drinking alcohol on November 27, 2018 the day of the hit and run.

Tsarnas did not turn himself in until later. Tsarnas has a misdemeanor conviction for marijuana from 2017. According to  witnesses, Tsarnas was driving 60 mph. Tsarnas fled the scene after hitting Kelly. Tsarnas told police he thought he had hit an animal and not a person. The incident occurred in Fernbridge in November 2018.

Mr. Neal Sanders is Tsarnas' attorney.  Mr.Patrik Griego represents the victim, Marie Kelley.

According to Shouse Law, a " felony hit and run carries penalties of a fine of between one thousand dollars ($1,000) and ten thousand dollars ($10,000) plus sixteen (16) months to three (3) years in state prison. If someone (other than the defendant) was killed or suffered a permanent, serious injury in the accident, the state prison sentence rises to two (2) to four (4) years."
