Being an old building, a windy day, the fire at Oberon could have spread rapidly causing a lot of damage




Humboldt Bay Fire Chief Bill Gillespie spoke with me later commended the person who saw the smoke at Oberon, called Humboldt Bay Fire.

Electrical shortage sparks fire at Oberon Grill in Old Town

HBF Battalion Chief Chris Emmons said fire started at the back of Oberon Grill.

According to one of the employees I just spoke with, there was an electrical shortage in one of the outlets and there was visible smoke but the fire was inside wall.

Barbara Jones gets 7 years in prison for use of knife and robbery in Old Town



Humboldt County District Attorney Maggie 
Fleming announced that today 41-year-old Barbara Jones of Eureka pled guilty to robbery, admitted the use of a knife and admitted she had a prior “strike” conviction for robbery from 2008. Judge Feeney sentenced her to 7 years in prison.

Richard Dean, Hoopa teen charged with stabbing, has preliminary for September 27 vacated




Criminal proceedings had been suspended for Richard Dean, the Hoopa teen charged with the stabbing of the 52 year old in Arcata in January 2016. In May 2016, Dean was admitted to Napa State Hospital. In March 2017, after a six month review, Dean was awarded a certificate of mental competency.
