Johanna Tenderfoot Johnson posted this on her protest page:
"Posted September 18 10:43 a.m.
Who's ready?
We are standing in solidarity with the Wiyot Tribe.
We are protesting Mr. Arkley's opinions and attempted interference in Justice.
The City of Eureka is on OUR side.
I met with the Interim Police Captain. Their biggest concern is that we stay out of the street.
Let's do this!"
I emailed Chief Steve Watson and Captain Brian Stephens as well as Eureka City Manager Greg Sparks, City Clerk Pam Powell, Mayor Frank Jager and Councilmember Marian Brady with this question.
The two statements about City of Eureka being on their side and what she said about EPD, any comment?
City Manager Greg Sparks responded:
"So we are on the same page as to this. As to picking a side on the Indian Island issue, that is not our place to publicly do so. Our function is to keep the peace, protect lives and property and our safeguard our citizens' rights."
City Manager Greg Sparks responded:
"John,
The City Council approved a non-binding MOU earlier this summer reiterating their support for the ongoing discussions of transferring Indian Island to the Wiyot Tribe. We put out a joint press release stating that as well. I will let EPD answer for the staying out of street issue.
Thanks,
Greg"
Captain Brian Stephens responded:
Captain Brian Stephens responded:
"In reference to her meeting with Interim Police Captain O’Neill, she is correct. We reached out to her, as the organizer, and have an open line of communication with her to work toward a peaceful event. The time of day and place combined with traffic is obviously a concern. The safety of all involved as well as the protection of our community, properties, their rights and commuters, is our primary goal."
Captain Watson also responded:
"The acting Captain spoke with one of the event organizers for the purpose of open communication and ensuring and facilitating a safe, secure and lawful exercise of their First Amendment right to peaceably assemble and express their beliefs. This is something we endeavor to do in these situations."Captain Watson also responded:
"So we are on the same page as to this. As to picking a side on the Indian Island issue, that is not our place to publicly do so. Our function is to keep the peace, protect lives and property and our safeguard our citizens' rights."
Oh boy oh boy! What a lier false info promoter she is-"The City of Eureka is on OUR side". No where does the council endorse your side. This is VJJ organizing a "peaceful" rally against the evil Arkley empire.
ReplyDeleteSee what happens when the Chief of Police walks with the lesbians/homos/trans? Everyone radical thinks the City has gone wacko and ultra liberal.WRONG!!
Actually Camelg1, I think it was great that Chief Mills participated in Pride. He is a police chief for all people. People are nice or jerks regardless of political views, economic status, skin color and other man made divisions.
ReplyDeleteThe City needs to be a City for all, not any extreme group having the ultimate say.
