"The City is telling the Squires to clean up their mess; why are we the citizens cleaning up the City's mess?

"The City of Eureka created this mess, why are we paying for it with decreased police presence?" asked Mr. Patrick Cloney.

Read the My Word by him. He told me the $900, 000 that is being applied to pension costs by the City of Eureka is the same amount cut from EPD's budget?

"The City is telling the Squires to clean up their mess; why are we the citizens cleaning up the City's mess?

Mr. Cloney said the City of Eureka's pension costs and numbers are parallel to the County's pension costs.

With the retirement of Sheriff Mike Downey and two other past Sheriffs, Mr. Cloney said we are paying almost $400,000 to three retired employees.

Pension costs expected to go up for the next 7-10 years, according to information given to him by City Clerk Pam Powell.

How is the City of Eureka going to manage the City Budget, what services will they cut and will they continue to raise fees and taxes to fund pension costs? Several people besides Mr. Cloney want to know.
