The power of the People to bring about change is in those who do; not those who sit around and complain.
Lot of people whine in Humboldt, and complain, especially online and on Facebook.
There are lot of facebook pages that are anonymous groups or individuals that provide entertainment but no solutions. Easy to poke fun. Easy to post whatever you want with no responsibility or accountability.
In less than two weeks, Take Back Eureka, has had at least two concrete succeses.
This is one group of individuals who organize regular meetings, show up at meetings and allow citizens to voice their concerns. These concerns and issues have largely been ignored by most media and elected officials.
A petition was circulated to ask the City to appoint EPD Chief Steve Watson as permanent Chief. It enumerated all the reasons why.
At Runeberg Hall, citizens showed up with valid concerns; dared to risk their businesses and themselves being attacked or shunned by the usual locals who enable the problems and do nothing to risk their own money or efforts to improve this community.
The best part is that this is a diverse group; it includes local businesses; and is not beholden to the same polarizing factions (left and right) that have done diddly for the community. The self proclaimed movers and shakers in Humboldt who help themselves and help the same group of 10-20 people that move from job to job and position to another position instead of allowing new leadership.
Yeah! Keep it up.
