Are there currently lactation rooms at the Humboldt County Courthouse? Have not seenany of these signs.

Like AB 1576 and SB 1268. AB 2961 can and will be abused by those with more money and power against pro per parties.

Former business partners suing each other about a restaurant opened for a year

Now, they are suing each other over the contract and agreement. Today, there was a hearing for motion to strike portions of cross complaint + demurrer to first amended cross complaint.

Is Matt Tomlin being investigated for sexual harassment allegations?

I recently received a tip that word on the street is that Matt Tomlin is being investigated for allegations of sexual harrasment. If it is true, the public should know given Tomlin's position and connections in the community. If it is gossip and rumor, the best way to quell it to look into it and get official information and stop the misinformation from spreading.

I am glad you guys fired him. He went to my Rabbi and said he was going to sue you guys. I am willing to be a witness for you guys."

( Rory Kalin who is suing Humboldt Judge Elvine-Kreis, the current Public Defender and former Public Defender  )

I first saw this guy reeking of booze in the in the room where the public computers are located. He was ranting and arguing with the court clerk. In addition to his anger issues, cluelessness about the law, he was a nuisance and it was hard to focus and check on cases with a lunatic screaming. This kind of verbal abuse happens all the time to court staff and on the second floor.

After I covered the Rory Kalin v Gregory Elvine-Kreis, Luke Brownfield, Marek Reavis hearing in Courtroom 4, I was headed to Courtroom 3. The jerk was still there and made a beeline to Luke who was on his way to some courtroom but the selfish jerk didn't care.

The guy told Luke he had been represented by former Public Defender Rory Kalin. "I am glad you guys fired him. He went to my Rabbi and said he was going to sue you guys. I am willing to be a witness for you guys."

"This is not a case where absolute work privilege applies"

(Elvine-Kreis partying with public defenders and others)

(Kalin)

On 8/25, there was a hearing in the lawsuit filed by former Deputy Public Rory Kalin against Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis, Public Defender Luke Brownfield and former Public Defender Marek Reavis.

Anyone shocked that Planning Commission intends to make Travis Schneider's project exempt from environmental review?

Missing in the days old coverage of the last Planning Commission meeting by Lost Coast Outpost and North Coast Journal are three facts. Is it ignorance, selective coverage or laziness or all of the above?

There is a lawsuit between Schneider's Pacific Affiliates and Cher-Ae Heights Casino that I covered on this blog. Both are suing each other.

All that drama of serving Karen for a lawsuit the County knew would settle , be dismissed or both

I sat all morning for half an hour in Courtroom 4 waiting for Judge Timothy Canning to call this case.

No other media was present. Why should they? Humboldt County needs no spin against Karen Paz Dominguez now that the June 7 election is over and there is no election ad revenue to be gained for "lifelong local 'media'."

Journalism and news in Humboldt not dictated by the Humboldt cabal? Covering a case of public interest from a perspective not benefitting the Humboldt Connected ? We can't have that; not in Humboldt!

Judge Elvine-Kreis is the only one who throws a hissy fit when there is a disqualification against him

Yet another continuance in this case.

Defense makes offer, Moore admits probation violation

I reported yesterday that Judge Kelly Neel had set up intervention in Daniella Moore's homicide case. As of today, Moore has 1149 days in custody.

Moore certainly does not seem insane. She was very clearheaded and responded decisively to Judge Neel's questions. If there is a jury trial, it will be interesting to see how jurors view Moore's additional plea of not guilty by insanity.

A hung jury, less than half the max is how a good defense attorney negotiates a plea

Aaron Arlotta's trial for one case resulted in a hung jury. Today, he entered a plea in two cases. In one case, he entered a guilty plea to resisting an executive officer.  Deputy District Attorney Jessica Acosta said the People are striking the special  allegation of a serious felony conviction in that case.

Dylan Olivas' badass strut before court changed after court to him walking like a deflated balloon

Saw 4th of July suspect Dylan Olivas strutting about the 2nd floor like he is some badass before court today. After court, he walked away like a deflated balloon.

Ciara, check your own facts and the law before wasting my time

Ciarah Marquez was arrested on August 19. She was released on 8/23/ per PC 825.

California Penal Code 825 PC requires courts to arraign criminal defendants within 48 hours of the arrest unless they bail out first. Marquez was not arraigned within the required time and therefore released.

Marquez is under the misconception her release from jail means she was found not guilty.

I checked with the Humboldt District Attorney's office. A report was received; it is being reviewed. I also heard back from Assistant Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads.  "A report was received and reviewed by the assigned DDA. Filing of charges is pending further investigation & review."

As a former Humboldt correctional officer, Central Station shooting perpetrator Sean Timothy O'Brien knows how to work the system

As a former Humboldt correctional officer, Central Station shooting perpetrator Sean Timothy O'Brien knows how to work the system. I had already reported on July 25 that he was going to withdraw his plea.

His tactic may backfire him. He has two days; actually less; for defense to file any motion by the deadline set by Judge Kelly Neel.

Kirby Bay requests his 2016 case be dismissed and record expunged

(2016 photo)

I covered Kirby Bay in 2016 and 2017. Bay resolved his case in 2018 with a conviction and guilty plea.

When I saw his name on the calendar recently, I was pretty sure it would be to modify something or dismiss. I was correct.

Another arrest by Fortuna PD for several sex abuse charges involving a minor

Former TS employee's lawyer a no show for court hearing

Since my original post, Ronald Maloney's photo has mysteriously disappeared from his profile. This is how it looks when I checked again on today.

I first reported on former IT manager Ronald Maloney lawsuit against MediaNews Group, Inc (Times-Standard) for wrongful termination.

On 8/1, Mihalyo's attorney was a no show in court.
