Judge Kaleb Cockrum denied the Marsden motion for Todd Cravens, who was arrested for breaking into the Kaber and Kaber law offices.
The real show today was before the preliminary hearing and his plea. The resolution was mid-prelim and after lunch.
Douglas Kaber was the first People's witness. EPD Officer Jeremy Sollom was supposed to testify after lunch but Cravens chose to accept a plea and stipulated sentence of 3 years and 8 months in prison. Cravens pleaded guilty to Count 1, second degree burglarly and Count 3 bringing drugs into jail.
Previous offer was 4 years, 8 months for Count 1 and 3.
Cravens has 30 days of custody and was given 30 days of conduct credits. Restitution is reserved. He was given some fines. Cravens waived his right to the rest of his preliminary hearing and a jury trial.
Cravens had been charged with PC 459 burglary, PC 496 (a) receiving stolen property and PC 4573 (a) bringing drugs into jail and prison.
EPD recovered some of the stolen property when they arrested him. Cravens in desperation today said he would return some other property that is with his belongings at the Humboldt jail. This includes checks and money orders.
Deputy District Attorney Jessica Acosta is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada is Craven's attorney.
