On 8/15, at trial confirmation for convicted rapist Kailan Meserve's habeas corpus hearing, the 8/29 date was vacated. Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer's motion to continue was granted. There was no objection from Meserve's attorney, Johnny Griffin.
Judge Kaleb Cockrum told Mr. Griffin that the court schedule was severly impacted. The number 74 was mentioned when rescheduling dates. I don't know if that is just for jury trials or includes preliminary and other hearings for that month. Several homicides are scheduled in the next couple of months.
A status conference is scheduled for September 13; the habeas corpus hearing for October 3.
9/13: Status conference continued by stipulation to 9/28.
