City of Eureka had plenty of opportunities to address lack of affordable housing and it is not just the fault of the present City Council

So now that the City of Eureka sees dollar signs from people possibly wanting to move up from the Bay Area and Southern California, they want to change restrictive zoning requirements?

Refugees is a bit misleading; sounds more like out of town money that will raise rents and benefit landlords, not local citizens and renters that struggle to pay bills.

The City of Eureka had a chance years ago to convert and regulate certain motels for short term housing for low income residents or transitional housing but the City wanted their hotel occupancy tax.  Lack of affordable housing cannot just be blamed on the current City Council but also the previous City Councils.

We see press conferences on how many people were housed and taken off the streets. Is there a follow up on how many end up on the streets after this "success"?

We have $50,000 to start another day center for the homeless. The chronic homeless and the usual troublemakers do not want help. We have a day center right next to the police station. And 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. does not solve the problem.

Jobs, realistic rents, more homes, supporting local and small business growth that is not grant funded and pot and alcohol related would be a start.

California and Humboldt have a homeless problem and a lack of affordable housing for low income, working class Americans because they do not create or encourage legal jobs or skilled private industry. They allow no growth nimby selfish activists and the liberal rich to dictate policy. Drugs, pot, alcohol get people addicted and should not be what California is known for.
