Is Nancy Giacone on administrative leave due to allegations against the suprintent's son?

A reader sent me this tip this morning.

"There is a Ferndale high school teacher (Nancy Giacone) on ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE for allegations against the NEW superintendent’s son on inappropriate relations between a student and a teacher….. There may be reason to believe that there are other students involved."

According to the Humboldt County Office of Education site, Nancy Giacone is a Spanish teacher. Beth Anderson is listed on the HCOE site as superintendent, however that is incorrect.

I contacted both Ms. Anderson and Giacone . I deliberately emailed Ms. Giacone on her Ferndale school email address and it bounced back as undeliverable. Within minutes of the post, I heard from the new superintendent.

The current superintendent is Danielle Carmesin. She responded to me and has directed my inquiry to Ferndale School Board President Danella Barnes-Penman.

I also contacted Ferndale Police Chief Ron Sligh who responded, "We have no criminal case going. I have heard that there is a personnel issue with a teacher at the high school, but we wouldn’t be involved in that type of situation."

At 1:36 p.m., I heard from Ms. Barnes-Penman, “It is the practice of Ferndale Unified School District to not discuss personnel matters. The safety of our students and the confidentiality of our staff is paramount.”

Nancy Giacone was married to Nick Giacone, former Humboldt County Auditor Michael Giacone's son. From sources who know the parties, they think Nick and Nancy are divorced. Thay was confirmed by court records. Nancy Giacone was previously a Spanish teacher at St. Bernard's and involved with the Humboldt soccer league.

Nancy Giacone's middle name starts with an E in her divorce case. There is a no contest plea in 2008 DUI case for a Nancy Eileen Giacone.
