Marin attorney and Oakland police officer investigated allegations against Supervisor Steve Madrone

Yesterday, I was the first to report on a Humboldt Board of Supervisor's agenda item on a sustained finding of violation of the Board of Supervisors Code of Conduct against Fifth District Supervisor Steve Madrone.

The County hired a labor and employment attorney who lists being an Oakland police officer and deputy district attorney on his Linkedin profile.

From Todd Simonson's Linkedin profile:

I am a labor and employment attorney with 23 years of experience who has represented both management and labor at top-rated law firms. I started the Law Office of Todd Simonson, PC, (LOTS) to continue serving businesses of all types and public agencies with the highest quality third-party/neutral workplace investigations, selective representation of clients in employment matters, customized workplace training, and expert witness services.

The core practice area at LOTS is workplace investigations. I have conducted hundreds of often complex workplace investigations over the last 15 years, including matters alleging serious misconduct by Fortune 500 company executives, elected officials and high-ranking public employees, and allegations across the employment law spectrum, including: embezzlement, fraud, sexual assault, substance abuse, criminal threats, whistleblower claims, harassment, discrimination and retailation, among other subjects.

With experience as an Oakland police officer, deputy district attorney and two decades as legal counsel to police officers and police chiefs alike, I have also been entrusted by dozens of law enforcement agencies throughout California to conduct sensitive internal affairs investigations sometimes involving significant uses of force. When necessary, and with client approval, I will enlist the services of specialists in particular fields to help prove or disprove allegations, such as electronic device forensic examiners, forensic accountants, and forensic video analysts.

As the owner of a solo law practice, I fully appreciate that my reputation is this firm's only true asset. To that end, I pledge to each LOTS client to be responsive, honest, prepared, fair, personable, to conduct respectful but thorough witness interviews, and to draft well-reasoned findings supported by evidence that will stand up in court, With the assistance of an accomplished team of part-time attorney and non-attorney writer/editors, LOTS also pledges to efficiently and cost-effectively deliver the highest-quality work product in every single case.
