Jesse Chakchak Widmark, the second suspect in the Harris and Dolbeer shooting incident and the younger Widmark brother who has been in jail for two days is was arraigned this afternoon. There are two cases for both brothers. Certain counts apply to Jesse Widmark and others to Brandon Widmark in the attempted murder case which has a total of 13 counts. The second case is an assault case and both brothers are charged with assaulting William Baskette with a bat.
At arraignment, Judge Steven Steward kept Jesse Widmark's no bail status, for now, until the OR/bail hearing g. If bail is going to be set, Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal has already requested it be in excess of a million dollars. Bail in the assault case was set at $35,000 for Jesse Widmark.
Mr. Bernthal summarized the chain of events that led to the arrest of the Widmark brothers. After an armed robbery at the Bayshore Mall, they fled after a hit and run injuring a bicyclist, then they ran into a vehicle carrying a family and toddler. When law enforcement responded, Jesse Widmark shot at a responding officer. Other officers then returned fire.
HCSO Deputy Raleigh Willoughby is listed as an alleged victim.
Brandon Widmark is scheduled to to be arraigned via Zoom at the hospital on 5/15 if court staff can pull off the logistics. Public Defender appointed for Jesse Widmark. OR/bail hearing and a supervised release report for Jesse Widmark is also scheduled for 5/15. Preliminary for both cases is scheduled for May 23 since Jesse Widmark did not waive time. There is extensive paper and digital discovery so that date will most likely change.
Jesse Widmark answered deferentially to Deputy Public Defender David Celli. Jesse Widmark was seated in a wheelchair. As he was led out of the courtroom, he glanced at me in the hallway.
