EPD and other law enforcement vehicles at safety corridor on a call "about male out in the mud flats possibly in need of assistance"

A reader just called to ask me why there were CHP and law enforcement vehicles with a huge lens searching the bay right before you come into Eureka and Target. Reader drove by 10 minutes ago. Another reader  driving in the safety corridor contacted me a couple of minutes later. 

I have contacted EPD, HCSO and CHP. EPD Chief Todd Jarvis told me, "We are working a call about a male out in the mud flats who is possibly in need of assistance.  We were able to get to him by boat and he is out of danger. We will be conducting a mental health evaluation on the individual. "

HCSO Crime Analyst Andrea Schutt responded, "The Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Eureka Police Department to assist with the incident."
