Everyone who presents at a Humboldt government meeting should take lessons from Sofia Pereira and her team

The presentation on the proposed tobacco retail licensing is organized, succinct and informative. Before presenting, Ms. Sofia Pereira told the Board of Supervisors that "tobacco has sacred use in indigenous communities so this will only focus on commercial products."

You can watch the rest of the presentation on video now or later.

First District Supervisor Rex Bohn is wasting time asking questions covered in the presentation and is so concerned about the impact, fees to tobacco retailers. Did he ask so many questions before passing Planning and Building fees? Cannabis fees?
No new positions, funding is covered, outreach has been done. Trying to delay the discussion on the code of conduct item Rex? It is a tie between who likes the sound of their voice more Rex or Kent Sawatzky?

"We make so much money from taxing cigarettes," said Rex. He called it the sin tax. Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell read the room and before vote "is supportive". She also asked about a similar ordinance for whippets. She had since 2022 to add that request to this ordinance.

Ms. Pereira and her team are doing an excellent job of answering questions. Passed with 5 votes.
