Joe Hale is here and so are alleged victims for his arraignment

Former Humboldt Superior court mediator and former CWS employee Joe Hale was scheduled to be arraigned on May 22. It was continued for a second time by stipulation. Charges are being amended in Hale's case.

Hale has been charged with four misdemeanor counts of PC 647 (j) (2) known as criminal invasion of privacy or disorderly conduct by secretly videotaping or photographing the body or undergarments of another person. There are four alleged victims, all women.

Typical of Humboldt courts, there were technical difficulties with Zoom. No other media was there today. Court bailiff Ernie Stewart just told me they are closer to opening the courtroom. Instead of 8:30 a.m., the court finally opened a few minutes before 9 a.m.

There was a lady, L.M. who told me she was a social worker and who had worked with Hale and told me she was an alleged victim when Hale worked at CWS and again while he was employed with the Humboldt courts.

Another lady was here from LA. "This would never happen in LA." Even though L.M. stated her name in court on record, I am only using her initials. There were other victims present in court. I saw some family law parties. There was one court clerk who still works in the courts who was one of the first alleged victims according to my sources. There was another court clerk who no longer works at Humboldt Superior Court and that clerk was dating a Humboldt Deputy DA Ian Harris and this former court employee is the one who allegedly caught Hale in the act. If women were wearing skirts, Hale would lower his cell phone and allegedly film them in what is informally known as upskirting. The clerk dating the Humboldt DA Investigator has moved out of state.

Hale's attorney, Mr. Paul Gallegos, filed a 977 waiver of personal appearance and since these are misdemeanor charges, Hale is not required to appear at arraignment. Hale is here with his wife Fran and what seems to be two other supporters. One of the social workers I worked with at CWS Varda Greenberg was in court. I am not sure why she was there.

I guess Hale's present wife, despite her crankiness and whatever the status of their current relationship maybe today, is standing by her man. Hale has already been divorced once.

Mendocino Assistant Deputy District Attorney Dale Trigg is the prosecutor for the case. Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman has been assigned the case.

L.M. told Judge Moorman that the Humboldt DA will not listen to her or give her any information and she is a "victim" of Hale's since 2008 and knows other "victims." L.M. did not say alleged and that is why those words are in quotes. L.M. said she has exhausted all efforts. Mr. Trigg gave L.M. his office number.

I contacted Humboldt DA Stacey Eads and DA Chief Investigator Kyla Baxley regarding L.M's claims.

When the courtroom finally opened, arraignment was continued to June 5. Mr. Gallegos apologized for the inconvenience caused to those who came to court.

The complaint needs to be amended by Mr. Trigg and that is all that was stated in court by Judge Moorman. In the future, Judge Moorman said the intent is for Mr. Trigg and herself to appear in person.
