Suspect opens fire and injures two San Diego police officers responding to a 911 call

A man opened fire on San Diego police officers and firefighters late Saturday night. Two male officers were wounded.

The man was wearing body armor, he barricaded himself in an apartment and fired through the walls. A SWAT team responded. There was a standoff.

After two hours, a robot was sent into the apartment. The suspect was found dead. Unknown at this time if the gunshot wound to the suspect was self inflicted.

The two officers went to the a local condominium complex. They were
responding to a 911 call about a disturbance with violence. When officers arrived they smelled smoke coming from the first-floor unit and called San Diego firefighters for backup.

When the officers forced open the door,  "they were met with gunfire," according to Police Chief David Nisleit.
