Initial autopsy results regarding body found in Mattole inconclusive



Update:

Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified the body recovered in the Mattole Beach area as that of missing person Hana Hammer.

A hiker located Hammer’s body in the Mattole Beach area on Feb. 21, 2018.
Hammer was last seen in the Petrolia area on Jan. 25, and was reported missing on Feb. 2.

HCSO PIO Samantha Karges said, "the Mattole body, our initial autopsy results are inconclusive. Due to the decomposition of the body, we cannot positively confirm the sex of the body. However, we are doing more investigation and hope to have an update within the coming weeks."


"The autopsy for the body recovered from Centerville Beach is scheduled for Tuesday, February 27. We are unable to confirm the sex of the body at this time."

2/27 Update on Centerville autopsy:

This afternoon, the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the body discovered on Centerville Beach Feb. 24, 2018.

This autopsy revealed that the body is of a male. Preliminary results indicate a cause of death consistent with drowning.


This death remains under investigation.
