In Humboldt County, closet Republicans and conservatives agree with these points but discuss them only in private

Census data shows mass exodus from California, Illinois and New York. Cost of living is the major factor.

Laguna Hills Mayor Don Sedgwick (R) makes some good points in the interview below.

"According to the Association of Realtors, the median price for a home in California is almost $600,000, while Texas stands at just over $200,000."

The excess regulations and taxes have made the same home in California 40 percent more expensive to build here than it does in other states, according to Sedgwick.

Sedgwick said , the number one job of the government is to keep us safe but the politicians in Sacramento believe their number one job is to "stick it to corporations. But when they stick it to the corporations, they don't realize that they're sticking it to the
consumer."

The homebuilders are making just as much money today as they ever had and every one of those excess regulations and permits  and permitting fees  are borne by the consumer, said Sedgwick.

As the New Year approaches, I have had the above conversation  and heard the above conversation in Humboldt. Ask anybody who understands reality and economics, the same argument presented applies to the increase in minimum wage. Workers are laid off, hours are cut and prices go up.

Unlike Sedgwick, I don't think one party is to blame for all of California's problems. I believe California has many laws that protect people but when it comes to the economy, facts matter. It costs twice as much for a simple fast food meal in California than other places. Penalty for not having healthcare hurts those already struggling. More housing, more jobs and an affordable cost of living benefit all Californians.

Taxing job creators and those working and having endless regulations do not help anyone move up the economic ladder. The only people fine with California's cost of living are those who have money to burn.
