Six months ago I provided facts about the CA health care penalty and exemptions

Back in June, I did an informative post on the proposed health care penalty tax in California.

Instead of reacting online in typical partisan fashion to two recent local articles on this topic perhaps the keyboard slackers should read news sources that have accurate and in depth information. Most of the coverage on this health care penalty tax has been superficial in local and regional media.

Governor Newsom's office was useless. I called local DHHS and they were helpful and had answers.

The link to that post is shared below. Here is some pertinent information from that post.

There are numerous exemptions to the penalty. For example, if you’re income-eligible for Medi-Cal (that’s up to about $17,240/year for an individual) but choose not enroll. Or you’re a member of a Native American Tribe, or have religious objections, etc. etc.

The state budget also includes additional, higher state-funded subsidies to help individuals and families who are over the Medi-Cal threshold, and are not offered insurance through their employer, purchase insurance on Covered California.
