Woman assaulted in 5th and O incident passed away

EPD released an update to the November 2 investigation. I already had two previous and exclusive posts on this incident that are linked below as well as exclusive coverage from the crime scene.

EPD update:

On November 2, 2019, a female suffering from an unknown medical condition was found in the alley at the 500 block of O Street.

The female was transported to the hospital and was ultimately transferred to an out of the area care facility.  A detective was assigned to the case due to the suspicious circumstances, though it was not confirmed an assault had occurred. 

On December 29, 2019, the detective was notified that the female passed away in the out of the area care facility as a result of the incident.  An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, January 2, 2020.

This investigation has not been confirmed as criminal in nature; therefore, the female’s identity will not be released at this time.

Original Release: On November 02, 2019 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance were dispatched to the alley in the 500 block of “O” Street on a report of a female suffering from an unknown medical condition.  Upon their arrival it was determined the female needed emergency medical services and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital.  Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the female’s condition Humboldt Bay Fire contacted the Eureka Police Department and requested their assistance.  Officers responded to the scene and secured the alley.  EPD Detectives, along with an Evidence Technician, responded to the scene, as well as the hospital, and initiated an investigation.
