Search to place sexually violent predator Joshua Cooley expanded statewide



Placement hearing for sexually violent predator Joshua Cooley was scheduled for December 13. His attorney, Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O' Connell is out sick today.

Everyone waiting in the courtroom didn't learn this until 9 a.m. when Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps came over after the office was called. Defense requested a continuance.
"I apologize to Court, counsel and everyone here," said Mr. Tipps.

The placement review hearing was continued to January 16 at 8:30 a.m.

District Attorney Maggie Fleming and Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads were preseny for the People. Liberty Healthcare representatives were here.

Ms. Eads requested that Liberty Healthcare search be expanded statewide. Defense agreed and Judge John Feeney concurred.

Total of 3,014 properties have been searched in Humboldt and Sacramento County to place Cooley. This number does not include Tehama and Lake County.

Only Cooley's grandmother was in court. Two community members were present.
