Forensic autopsy today for pedestrian who died after Redwood tree fell on him
On Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at approximately 4:38 PM, it was reported to 9-1-1 a Redwood tree collapsed within the Muir Woods National Monument Park, falling to the ground and striking a pedestrian, who was walking upon the trail path; Emergency Services were requested and immediately responded.
Upon the arrival of First Responders to the scene, a male subject was discovered unconscious and lifeless beneath a large Redwood tree, which had unexpectedly fallen to the ground. Sadly, the subject sustained severe traumatic injuries and his death was pronounced on the scene at approximately 5:01 PM.
The decedent has been identified as:
Subhradeep Dutta, 28-year-old male resident of Edina, MN.
A forensic post-mortem examination has been scheduled to be conducted on Friday, December 27, 2019. The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the National Park Service and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation. Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the National Park Service.
