Rape suspect Jesus Chavez was arrested by Arcata Police Department on 8/27/26. The Humboldt County DA filed three felony rape charges on 9/1/26. Count 1 is PC 261 (a) (2) forcible rape; Count 2 PC 261 (a) (3) rape of an intoxicated person and PC 261 (a) (4) (a) rape of an unconscious person. Alleged victim is Jane Doe.
He was arraigned the same day. Humboldt Superior Court Judge Steven Steward set bail at $75,000 and the Public Defender was appointed.
On 9/3, supervised release was granted by Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Marilyn Miles. A criminal protective order was filed and served in court. Preliminary hearing is on 9/9/26. Conditions of supervised release include that Chavez cannot leave the state without permission from the court and Probation; he has to report once a week to his supervising officer, electronic blood alcohol monitoring and a stay away from Jane Doe.
