Convicted felon among two repeat offenders arrested by EPD yesterday

On September 27, 2026, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Officers with the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station in the 4000 block of Broadway. The victim reported that a suspect had swung an object at them while attempting to take a pack of cigarettes.

Upon arrival, Officers located a suspect matching the provided description walking southbound on Broadway and in possession of an object believed to have been used during the incident. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Eureka resident Anthony McGrew, was initially non-compliant with Officers and refused commands to stop.

McGrew eventually dropped the object, a black metal pipe. Officers detained McGrew and located the reported cigarettes on his person. It was discovered McGrew was currently on probation. McGrew was subsequently taken into custody and booked for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and violation of probation.

In a separate incident, which occurred three minutes after the robbery on the 4000 block of Broadway, the Eureka Police Department Dispatch Center received a report of a male who was unconscious inside a restroom at a business in the 600 block of Commercial Street. Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance responded and provided medical assistance. After the patient was resuscitated, fire personnel observed a firearm on the ground next to him. The patient appeared agitated, and Officers were requested to respond to the scene.

Upon arrival, Officers contacted 29-year-old Eureka resident Donald Garcia. Garcia was non-compliant with Officers and was detained following a brief physical altercation. The physical altercation resulted in an injury to an officer. 

It was discovered Garcia was a convicted felon and currently on parole. Officers determined Garcia was in possession of a loaded firearm, a concealed firearm, and a high-capacity magazine. Garcia was taken into custody and booked for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a concealed firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a high-capacity magazine, felony resisting arrest, and parole violations.
