Matthew Manago arrested for DUI, stalking attempted murder, burglary and violation of a restraining order

Eureka Police Department arrested 48 year old  Matthew Manago, of Arcata on September 15 for DUI. Yesterday, he was arrested on additional charges of burglary, taking a vehicle without permission, stalking and attempted murder.

I just checked, he posted bail on 9/15. Yesterday, he was booked with no bail hold.

I have included his four cases in Humboldt with two convictions which includes one DUI case.

"On September 15, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to the vicinity of Long and A Streets for a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway. Upon arrival, officers contacted the driver, identified as Matthew Manago, 48, of Arcata. Manago was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., the handling officer was notified that the vehicle Manago had been driving was a stolen vehicle. The victim reported to the handling Officer that Manago had been stalking them, had broken into their residence, and then taken their vehicle. In addition to DUI, Manago was booked into the Humboldt  County Correctional Facility for burglary, taking a vehicle without permission, and stalking. An emergency protective order was issued on behalf of the victim. Manago was later released from custody after posting bail.

On September 16, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., EPD officers responded to a residence in the 2300 block of E Street for a report of an unsecured door that had previously been locked by the resident. The residence belonged to the victim involved in the previous incident. 

Upon arrival, officers contacted an additional reporting party who advised they were at the residence to assist with retrieving belongings for the victim. The victim was not at the residence due to ongoing concerns involving Manago, who had reportedly been frequently coming to the residence and causing the victim to fear for their safety.

Officers confirmed the door was unsecured. Based on the circumstances reported and multiple additional reports that Manago had been stalking the victim, officers entered the residence and located a substantial amount of blood inside. Officers subsequently located Manago, who was armed with a knife and appeared to be suffering from a self-inflicted injury. Officers were able to get Manago to disarm himself and he was taken into custody without further incident. Manago was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

As the investigation continued, investigators reviewed the reported pattern of behavior and obtained multiple statements indicating Manago had expressed an intent to kill the victim. Based on the preliminary investigation, investigators determined there was probable cause to charge Manago with attempted murder. 

Following his release from the hospital, Manago was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder, violation of a restraining order, felony stalking, and burglary.
