Mario Avelar was not aware a case had been filed against him; he wasn't aware a warrant had been issued for his arrest; both times he found out when I called him

Cattle wander out to the highway in Humboldt all the time. The local crime and scanner junkies know this just as I do. If you are the late Domingo Santos or one of the good ole boys in Humboldt, law enforcement pays you a courtesy call. If you are Ray Christie or his business associate Mario Avelar; you get charged.

I saw a case had been filed against Mario with three misdemeanor charges and this was when his name appeared on the calendar for the July 31 date. Mario was not in court that day but he was lucky because it was referred to the DA for affadavit. This happens more often than you think. I have seen it in other cases I cover.

I saw a letter had been sent sent to Mario on 5/28/26 by Deputy DA Alison Herson to an address in Ferndale. He told me that he did not receive that letter.

I kept checking the case. On 8/12 declaration filed by law enforcement for arrest warrant and a warrant was issued on 8/14. This also happens in other cases but people do not know a warrant has  been issued.

I called Mario and asked him if he was aware there was a warrant out for his arrest. He was not; on 8/21 Mario  went to the courthouse, explained to HCSO what he told me and took care of the warrant and was given a new court date.

On 10/16, arraignment was continued by the Court to 10/29 for Mario to retain private counsel.
