Convicted rapist's sentencing continued by defense

Convicted rapist Spotted Elk Carlos Eugene Zumwalt was scheduled to be sentenced on August 5. Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada filed a motion to continue. There was a hearing on that motion on 8/4. The defense motion was granted and sentencing rescheduled to 8/19.

Zumwalt pleaded guilty to forcible sexual penetration, porn charges. The victims are three minor Jane Does. Original charges included sexual intercourse, sexual penetration and showing/distributing pornography to a minor.

On July 13, the third day of jury selection, Zumwalt resolved his case for a stipulated sentence of 10 years, 4 months. On July 5, Zumwalt had rejected an offer of 24 years in prison. Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for the case.
