CHP arrests homeless man for assaulting Newsom

California Governor Gavin Newsom got to experience the impact of his failed policies and decisions regarding public safety, mental health and homelessness firsthand. The guy allegedly threw a water bottle at Newsom.

Different rules for Newsom compared to the rest of California; again. Will he spin it like the French Laundry dinner?

We have homeless, mentally ill people in Humboldt and California spitting on people and assaulting them. Local restaurant and hotel employees have been spit on, harassed and attacked on a daily basis. Construction workers deal with worse daily.

Gavin "no consequences" for criminals Newsom doesn't have to deal with the consequences of his incompetency; we do.

Newsom has been making the late night doing PR on homelessness and mental issues. His draconian COVID 19 restrictions and "emergency" caused more people to lose income, lose their homes and go through anxiety, mental stress because he will not address the root causes and corruption or fix them.

Stimulus payments do not make up for the loss of earning a living or being forced to find a roof in California where there is lack of housing and affordable options. Throwing money to temporarily house people is not the solution. How much goes to bureaucracy, greedy developers, slumlorfs and sleazy motels?

Information about the inciden, mostlyt from the East Bay Times, made regional and national headlines.

The 54 year old Berkeley man waa identified by the Blaze as Serge Emanuel Benoit Chaumette Jr.

Newsom was in Oakland to promote the state's support for small businesses. He was on his way to a barbershop and pizza joint.

“This morning, the Governor was approached by an aggressive individual. Members of the Governor’s security detail removed the Governor from the situation and the individual was arrested by CHP officers,” was the statement provided by CHP. The agency provides security for the governor.

The CHP statement did not provide details. According to law enforcement sources, the man allegedly threw a water bottle at Newsom.

A group of reporters heard the commotion but they only saw the governor’s security detail detaining the man."Newsom did not appear injured or disturbed by the incident. When reporters later asked what happened, he quipped that different people have different ways of saying hello."

The man was booked at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of resisting an executive officer and assaulting a public official. The jail’s booking log listed his occupation as “pumping gas.” Bail at booking was set at $35,000.

Arraignment is scheduled for Monday. CHP is investigating. The suspect's sister said the man is homeless and has mebtal health issues.
