Is it poor leadership that Chief Watson chose to leave town when one captain is on leave and the department is under investigation?

I have known for over a week now that EPD Chief Steve Watson is on vacation. He is allowed to take vacation. Is it poor leadership that Chief Watson chose to leave town when one captain is on admin leave and the department is under investigation?

Yes.

I am not Chief Watson's employer. The City of Eureka, as usual, is not doing their job. If he is out of cell range where he is on vacation, then his employer needs to deal with that issue. That would require the Mayor and the five clowns on Eureka City Council to be questioned and held accountable.

That won't happen with the rest of the local media who graduated from the Brian Stelter school of "journalism" and think interviews similar to the Jen Psaki "how can I better cover you" is considered "reporting."

I was not going to post about a vacation because EPD management, the department and morale have bigger issues which are being ignored. Chief Watson is entitled to time off; is now really the best time?

I was contacted today by someone about Chief Watson being on vacation. This is a small community. People outside the department know where he lives or if he is home or out of town just like they do about other public figures.

Despite the way this tipster behaved with me, I do not reveal my sources. That is why I consistently scoop and break stories that no one else does. Trust and respect works both ways.

If you don't trust me and don't have the basics of decency and ettiquette; don't call me. For 18 years in this community, my tipsters and sources trust me for a reason.

Your information is something I already knew. Do not assume what I know, when I knew it. Just because I did not report it does not mean I am not aware.

I have better things to do with my time and I chose to call this tipster to allay unwarranted fears.

On one hand the tipster tells me that they called me for a reason. On the other hand the tipster does not trust me and the cloak and dagger was unneccessary.

To this person, do not ever contact me again. When you chose to contact a reporter, your information needs to be verified. Your contact information will not be destroyed; especially if you threaten me. Nor will any information or voicemail. Note that even after your petulance; I did not identify your gender or anything about you.

I tried to have a calm conversation and told this person that I dont reveal my sources and tried to be decent and call the person back. I was under no obligation to do so. I tried calmly to address what I found was offensive/threatening suggestion. This person hung up on me. To this person, threats and harassment are not protected.

To this person I owe you nothing. don't owe anyone in Humboldt anything. I daily invest and have invested in this community my money and my time for 18 years. The people who appreciate, support and fund what you and everyone else in Humboldt profits from daily don't owe you or anyone in Humboldt anything.

This blog and what I invest and have invested in Humboldt isn't worth it for me financially or personally. It isn't worth the pettiness, abuse, harassment and being taken advantage of by dumb fucks to cheap to support independent reporting and too ignorant to value actual journalism. I owe nothing to those who take advantage because I am not afraid to put my contact information out there.

I continue to inform this community despite the unprofessional agenda driven jokers such as NCJ's Thad Greenson and Sacramento Bee's Jason Pohl They like sloppy seconds.

I reported Captain O'Neill was on admin leave. They regurgitated it days later with no credit and not even 1/10th of the scoops on the EPD text scandal I have reported. Pohl could not even protect his"anonymous source." To the tipster, don't confuse me with him.

I consistently report news no one else has the guts to do. I have consistently reported exclusives on the EPD text and other developmentst before anyone else. I have very loyal readers and tipsters. People call me because they know if they they want the truth and to have independent reporting, this blog is their only option. They call me because they respect me; I them and we value each other.

Scrutiny from outside is the only way to expose corruption, bullies and truth. Unlike the "anonymous source" who went to useless Pohl, you have to know what is considered news and who to go to outside Humboldt.
