This isn't the only scam on Humboldt craigslist

Whoever posted this did the community a favor. This is a scam. I knew it. It has been posted for rent before but the contact information before was different.

I texted the number with a 520 area code. The person responded promptly saying the place was for rent. I sent my email with questions any landlord would be glad to answer such as amount of security deposit. No response for over 24 hours. I flagged the ad.

Funny, how that ad suddenly disappeared. Flag these ads and report them because they do a disservice, especially at a time, people are more desperate than ever.

There are several scams on craigslist and they are different types. Some ads for the same place keep showing up weeks later, a month later, two months later. No phone number, no name should be an instant red flag. With just a phone number like this ad, you are taking a risk. Legit ads have contact information and names you can verify.

With the COVID 19 moratorium, housing is hard to find, many landlords are letting apartments sit empty or doing short term rentals for various reasons and none of them are altruistic.

These scams are just despicable people preying on the desperation created by California government's failure to address need for housing decades ago and the housing crisis created by greed.
